Who is Hasrat Bano?
This is the story of Hasrat Bano, a resident of village Khanwa under Sadar block of Palamu district. Hasrat Bano’s entire family was earlier dependent on farming. The family survived through traditional farming and vegetable production, but it generated only limited income. The desire to improve the economic situation inspired him to look for a new path.
Journey from farming to business
Initially, Hasrat Bano joined a self-help group and took a loan and tried to increase farming. Production increased, but profits were not as expected. After this he joined Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS) and received training. Here he was taught the nuances of packaging, branding and marketing, which completely changed his thinking.
Got new skills through training
After training from JSLPS, Hasrat Bano prepared the products at home and started packaging them. He learned how to present the product to the market. After this, the products made by him started reaching big fairs from the local markets.
There is demand for these products
Hasrat Bano mainly trades Madua flour in the form of coarse grains. Apart from this, many domestic products including mustard, maize, pigeon pea, moong and mango pickle are prepared. All these products are sent to the market with packaging. Apart from Saras Mela Ranchi, Saras Mela Delhi, there is demand for their goods also in Palas Mart. Today their products are being liked from Ranchi to Delhi.
Annual income of lakhs
Hasrat Bano says that she is earning around three lakh rupees annually from this business. The demand for products remains throughout the year. In the future, she is planning to take this business to a bigger level, so that she can ensure her income solely from this work instead of farming.
