CJI Surya Kant News: Supreme Court is angry over the acid attack case pending for 16 years in Rohini Court of Delhi. Chief Justice Surya Kant called it a ‘mockery of the system’ and ‘national shame’. The court said that if this is the condition of the capital, then what will happen to the country? Taking a strict stance, the Supreme Court has now summoned reports of pending acid attack cases from High Courts across the country.
New Delhi: ‘If this is the condition of justice in the capital Delhi, then God is the master of the rest of the country.’ What the Supreme Court has said on the delay of 16 years in an acid attack case is enough to embarrass the entire system. A case of 2009 is still stuck in Rohini court. As soon as Chief Justice Surya Kant received this information, he got angry. In the packed court, he called it a ‘mockery of the system’ and ‘national shame’. The court made a scathing comment and said that if the country’s capital cannot handle such sensitive matters, then who will? The court itself has now taken charge.
If this is the condition of the capital Delhi, what will happen to the rest of the country?
The case was of Shaheen Malik vs Union of India. The victim’s lawyer told the court that she was attacked in 2009. 16 years have passed since the FIR was filed. But the criminal trial is still pending in Rohini court. The bench was stunned upon hearing this. CJI asked whether the trial is still going on? The judges were surprised when the answer was ‘yes’. He said that such a long delay is a shameful situation. The court asked the lawyer to file an application immediately. The court will now take ‘suo motu’ cognizance of this matter.
Throwing acid is old, now there is a new scary trend of giving acid.
During the hearing, the lawyer told a shocking truth. He said that the matter is not limited to just throwing acid. Now the scoundrels are forcing women to drink acid. The lawyer told the court that there were many women who were made to drink acid. Due to this their body rots from inside. She cannot eat normal food. They have to survive through the food pipe. Hearing this painful thing, the atmosphere of the court became sad. The CJI admitted that delay in such circumstances is no less than a crime.
No mercy on the accused, big ultimatum given to the government
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta also seemed to agree with the court’s concern. He said that complete strictness should be taken against such criminals. No agency can oppose this. CJI Surya Kant told the Solicitor General that the government should do something immediately. He suggested that acid attack victims should also be included in the definition of ‘disabled’. The government can bring an ordinance for this. The court clearly said that this is a mockery of the system which will not be tolerated.
Report sought from entire country, now careless officers will not be spared
