Doctors also often advise people suffering from stomach problems to eat papaya. Not only this, papaya is also considered beneficial in heart disease, diabetes and skin related problems. Along with health, papaya is also no less than a boon for the farmers. Its cultivation is done at low cost and in less time. Dharmendra says that the papaya crop starts bearing fruits within 8 to 10 months of planting, due to which the farmer starts getting income quickly. Once the plant is planted, continuous production continues for 2 to 3 years.
Earning lakhs in one hectare
Hot and temperate climate is considered most suitable for papaya cultivation. Loamy soil, which has good drainage system, is better for papaya. Its sowing is mainly done in the months of February–March and June–July. About 1200 to 1500 plants can be planted in one hectare of land. If we talk about production, on average 30 to 40 kg of fruits can be obtained from one plant. The demand for papaya in the market remains throughout the year. At present, the wholesale price of papaya ranges from Rs 15 to Rs 30 per kg, due to which farmers can earn up to lakhs of rupees in one hectare. This profit can be increased further by adopting proper care and modern technology. Apart from this, there is also good demand for raw papaya vegetable and pickle.
