After the death of Ali Mohammad Khan in 1748, after becoming the leader of Rohillas, Hafiz Rahmat Khan declared Pilibhit as the capital of Rohilkhand instead of Bareilly. Since then, construction of many mosques was started in the city. After becoming the capital of Rohilkhand, Jama Masjid was built in Pilibhit. The Jama Masjid here is a replica of the Jama Masjid of Delhi. Experts say that Hafiz Rahmat Khan had a special attachment to Jama Masjid. He wanted that those who could not see the Jama Masjid of Delhi should feel the beauty of the Jama Masjid of Pilibhit, hence he built an identical mosque in Pilibhit also.
If we talk about religious heritage in the city, then along with Jama Masjid, Gaurishankar Temple is also definitely mentioned. In fact, due to the great faith of the Hindu community in Gaurishankar temple, after the construction of Jama Masjid, Hafiz Rahmat Khan also constructed the grand gate of the temple. This gate still sets an example of Ganga-Jamuni culture.
According to the inscription on the door, this door was built by Subedar Ali Mohammad Khan in the year 1734. This door is located on JP Road of the city. Apart from this, the Subedar had also constructed many other doors, but due to lack of maintenance, all the doors have now fallen into oblivion. According to local people, the upper part (roof) of the door collapsed one afternoon in 1999. Recently, an effort was made to renovate it, but that too has now been shelved.
