Due to its connection with Sirohi region of Rajasthan, this breed of goat is known by the name Sirohi. The surprising thing is that at present these goats are being reared not only in Rajasthan but in many states of the country including Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
Dr. Jagpal, a veterinary scientist working at the Agricultural Science Center located in Madhopur of the district, says that rearing the Sirohi breed can be very beneficial for those who want to do goat rearing commercially. The rearing of these goats is completed at very low cost, due to which they weigh up to 60 kg in just one and a half years. From this you can imagine how beneficial this breed can prove to be for goat farmers.
According to Jagpal, the female goat of Sirohi breed gives birth to kids twice in a year on an average. Gives birth to one to two babies at a time. After giving birth, they produce one to one and a half liter milk every day for three months continuously. In such a situation, they are reared not only for meat but also for the purpose of milk. The goat breed with its slim body and long legs is becoming the first choice of the farmers. Initially it was reared in different areas of Rajasthan, but since a long time it is also reared extensively in states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Haryana.
