In Godda district, farmers are busy sowing Rabi crop wheat. Krishi Vigyan Kendra has advised farmers to adopt improved varieties like DSW and DW Wheat instead of old varieties like ‘Sona Kalyan’. These new varieties give higher yields with less water and lower costs. These seeds are available at PACS at 50% less than the normal rate.
Godda: With the arrival of winter, the time has come for sowing of wheat, the most important crop of Rabi season. These days, farmers across the district are busy plowing the fields, preparing the soil and selecting seeds. Traditionally, most of the farmers in Godda district have been relying on old varieties like “Sona Kalyan” for years based on the advice of their ancestors. But with changing times and modern agricultural technology, farmers are now being advised to take advantage of new varieties that give better yields.
Krishi Vigyan Kendra Godda has recommended new and improved varieties for farmers this year, which are capable of giving low cost, less effort and higher yields. Giving information, Block Agriculture Officer Shashi Shekhar said that mainly two varieties DSW and DW Wheat are proving to be better options for the farmers in the district.
What is the specialty of seeds?
The specialty of these varieties is that they grow well even in less water and due to their high disease resistance, the chances of crop failure are less. Farmers can get the benefit of good production and cost savings this time.
Shashi Shekhar told that this seed is easily available in the local markets of Godda. Besides, these wheat seeds are also being made available in almost every government PACS of the district. Farmers are getting this seed at about 50% lower rate than the normal market, due to which small and medium farmers will also be able to use improved varieties.
The Agriculture Department says that by using proper seeds, sowing at the right time, balanced fertilizers and adopting modern agricultural techniques, the yield of farmers can increase significantly. Counselling, distribution camps and technical training are also being organized by the department at the block level to make the farmers aware.
