Carrot Farming: Winter season brings new hopes for farmers. As soon as the harvesting of paddy is over, preparation for other crops starts in the fields, and carrots are also included in these crops. Carrot cultivation is considered beneficial for farmers. This crop grows underground, hence there is a high risk of rotting. According to experts, if farmers take care of some important things then carrots can be easily saved from rotting.
Necessary measures to prevent melting
The first and most important thing is that if there has been problem of carrot rot in any field before, then do not sow carrots in that field this year. The spores of rot multiply in the soil every year and continue to affect the crop in every season.
Farmers should not use such fields for sowing carrots for at least 2 to 3 years. In these 2-3 years, mix friendly fungi like Trichoderma and Pseudomonas with rotten cow dung and scatter them in the field. These fungi destroy decay causing organisms and make the soil healthy.
Follow these steps to make carrot color dark red
Melting in carrots also increases due to wrong management of water. Therefore, avoid filling the field with excess water. For better production, it is necessary to use sulphur, zinc, boron, potash and super fertilizer in carrot crop. Due to this, the color of carrots becomes dark red, shape is better and melting is less.
What do experts say?
Dr. I.K., in-charge and professor of Agricultural Science Center. Kushwaha said that rotting in carrots is mostly caused by diseases present in the soil, which affect ground crops the most. He gave special advice on two situations.
1- If there has been more melting in your field in the last years, then do not sow carrots in that field this year. Apply rotten cow dung manure mixed with Trichoderma and Pseudomonas in that field for 2 to 3 years. Due to this, the spores of the disease present in the soil are gradually destroyed. If tuber crops are planted in that field after two years, the production is better.
Boron will solve the problem
Many times the carrot bursts and melting starts from the place of bursting. Experts say that this problem is caused by the deficiency of boron. Therefore it is very important to give the right amount of boron.
Dr. Kushwaha also advised that while irrigating, fill water only up to half the ridge. This ensures proper air flow and the carrots swell well. He said that if any farmer has any problem or needs information, he can directly contact the office of the Agriculture Department.
