The news of security lapse during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Punjab’s Ferozepur is in the news. This is a serious matter. By the way, this has happened only once so far, when the Special Protection Group ie SPG, which protects the Prime Minister in critical situations, had to fire. One life was lost in this.
This accident happened on 25 January 2000. His target was former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar. Then a group of students forcibly tried to enter the train compartment in which former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar was traveling. At that time former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar was getting SPG security. Then former prime ministers also got this protection. Later this law was amended. Now former Prime Ministers get this protection only for one year after their removal from office.
This incident happened at Saadat station of Ghazipur
The train was halted at Saadat station. This station is in Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh. Security personnel tried to remove them but there was panic in it. The crowd of students became more uncontrollable. Then the SPG had to fire. One student was killed while another was injured.
When Chandrashekhar was the Prime Minister and was going to Bihar, his convoy was not only pelted with stones but also raised slogans.
However, Chandrashekhar’s SPG cover was withdrawn when Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s NDA government was at the Centre. He also criticized it.
Chandrashekhar was still alive
Later another incident happened with former Prime Minister Chandrashekhar. When he was going from New Delhi to Ballia by Magadh Express in Sahibabad. Then there was a loud sound in his window window. This accident happened in the year 2003.
Later, Chandrashekhar told that after this accident, a police officer told him that there was a bullet in his compartment window as well. Which got stuck in the AC window.
Then there was stone pelting on PM’s convoy
Senior journalist Ramesh Parida has mentioned on his Facebook page the incident when BJP people in Bihar pelted stones at the convoy of the then PM Chandrashekhar during the 1991 Lok Sabha elections. Then Lalu Prasad Yadav was the Chief Minister in Bihar. There was no panic at that time. The PM’s convoy overtook Furr.
Then there was a security lapse in Manmohan’s convoy
In 2006, even when Manmohan Singh was the Prime Minister, there was a security lapse in Trivandrum. Once during the meeting of the PM, on January 25, 2000, the SPG agent had to shoot.
