Millet cultivation is now increasing rapidly along with traditional paddy in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh. Farmers are growing nutritious crops like Ragi, Kodo, Mandiya, Kulthi and Kosra using scientific techniques. Modern cultivation of ‘Bada Kosra’ in Potali, Patelpara has become a new hope for the farmers. With SMI technology and biological treatments, this crop has become an inspiring model of agricultural progress in the district.
Young farmers of Dantewada are now taking Kosra cultivation to a new level by preparing a scientific nursery of 15-21 days. Due to regular organic care the plants are becoming stronger. Uniform growth is visible in the fields. This nursery method is considered helpful in doubling the production.
According to SMI technique, planting of big Kosra is being done at a distance of 30-30 cm. With this spacing, plants get more air and nutrients, which makes the crop denser, taller and stronger. This arrangement of rows in the fields gives a very scientific form to farming.
With new technology, farmers are completely dependent on organic treatments instead of chemical fertilizers. The roots of the crop are becoming more powerful with natural remedies like Jeevamrit, cycle weeding and Handi Dawa. The number of Kosra ears is reaching 30-40, which is an indication of excellent production.
