Malkangiri Violence: Violence broke out in Malkangiri after the murder of Lake Podiyami. Considering the situation, the ban on internet has been extended by 24 hours. The police also took action and arrested the accused Subha Ranjan Mandal.
Malkangiri. The situation still remains tense in Malkangiri district of Odisha. In view of the brutal murder of a tribal woman and the subsequent violence, the Odisha government has extended the suspension of internet services in the district by 24 hours. Police got a major breakthrough on Wednesday when they recovered the severed head of a murder victim from the banks of Poteru river. This place is about 15 kilometers away from the place where the woman’s torso was found. This gruesome murder has shocked the entire area.
Woman’s head found on the river bank: According to the police, the torso of 51-year-old Lake Podiyami, a resident of Rakhelguda village, was found on December 4. His head was missing, for which the police were continuously searching. Finally, on Wednesday, the head was recovered from the banks of Poteru river near Kanya Ashram. The woman was missing since December 1 and the family had filed a missing report on December 3. On Tuesday, the woman’s torso was buried in her village in the presence of senior police and administration officials. Now after finding the head, the police is deeply investigating the reasons behind the murder.
Internet halted after violence and arson: Violence broke out in Rakhelguda and surrounding areas on Sunday after the decapitated body of a woman was found. The tribals of Rakhelguda got angry and attacked the MV-26 village. Mostly Bengali speaking people live in this village. The mob vandalized about 200 houses and set some on fire. After this incident, the administration has stopped internet services as a precautionary measure. Earlier this restriction was till 12 noon on Wednesday, which has now been extended by 24 hours on the recommendation of Malkangiri District Magistrate.
Accused arrested, relief camp started: The police have arrested Subha Ranjan Mandal (42), the accused of this heinous murder. With his arrest it is hoped that the real reason for the murder will come to light. At the same time, the administration has started relief work in the violence-affected MV-26 village. Malkangiri District Magistrate Somesh Kumar Upadhyay said that a free kitchen has been opened in the village. Food, blankets and other essential items are being given to the victims. About 300 people who fled the village out of fear have now returned and are living in a temporary shelter. Police are patrolling the entire area so that no untoward incident happens again.
