The traditional Sambalpuri sarees of Orissa have been made for many years by the women of Nagramuda in the district. Which has huge demand in the market. Since this village is in the border area of Orissa, customers from all over Orissa also come to buy the sarees made by the women. Demand for sarees comes to women from different districts of Chhattisgarh, women also make expensive sarees on order. Along with household work, women are earning good profits from saree manufacturing.
Gomti Mehar, a saree weaver, told Local 18 that she gets the threads from Bargarh in Orissa. It takes 2 days to make one saree, which requires the hard work of two people. The price of sarees depends on the quality of the thread. Sambalpuri saree starts from Rs 1500, these expensive sarees are made on order. They do not get much profit in cheap sarees. Women tell that sarees are sold by them when customers come. They also go to sell sarees in the local market. Women told that the cheapest saree is of ₹ 1500, in which they get a profit of ₹ 400.
Women appealed to the government
Since Sambalpuri saree is a traditional saree of Orissa, the Orissa government gives many types of subsidies. Similarly, the women of Nagaramuda of Raigarh have also appealed to the government for benefits. He said that work place for saree manufacturing, market for sale, loan for basic facilities and facility for brand promotion should be provided, so that they too can earn good profits by promoting their brand in the state of Chhattisgarh.
