A big revelation has been made about Rahmanullah Lakanwal who attacked the National Guard near the White House. According to Fox News reports, he had worked in an American allied force in Kandahar and reached America in 2021 under Operation Allies Welcome. The FBI has started investigating the case as a possible international terrorist attack. President Trump called it an ‘attack on the country’ and promised strict action.
The attack, which took place a few steps away from the White House in Washington DC, has shaken both America’s security agencies and politics. After the firing on two National Guard soldiers, now many new information is coming to light about the old life of suspect Rahmanullah Lakanwal. Afghan media and Fox News reports say this was not just a random act of violence, but the suspect’s past makes the case even more complicated. According to Afghan media, Lakanwal was a member of a special operational team named Zero-One Unit during the Afghan Republic before the coming of Taliban rule.
This was the same unit which was created, trained and provided weapons by the American agencies themselves. The report claims that many former members of this unit struggled with challenges such as mental pressure and instability after the war, and there were also many cases where members were found involved in incidents like attacks or suicide. However, American agencies have not yet made any formal comment on these claims. Fox News Digital, quoting intelligence sources, said that Lakanwal had earlier had a working relationship with American government agencies, including the CIA.
How did the attacker reach America?
During his deployment as a partner force in Kandahar, he was directly linked to the US military and intelligence networks. The report says that after the American withdrawal from Afghanistan, he was transported to America in 2021 under the Operation Allies Welcome program. The report says that after the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, the Biden administration shifted him to America on the basis of his prior service. Before this, he was staying around Islamabad International Airport for about 24 days, where the processing and approval of his documents was going on. He was sent to America only after all the formalities were completed.
What did you do before the attack?
Initial investigation related to the attack revealed that Lakanwal wandered around the Farragut West metro station near the White House for some time, and then suddenly fired at the National Guard soldiers. It is being told that he was firing from very close. After the attack, the third guard acted quickly and stopped Lakanwal. He was also hit by several bullets during the incident, and the medical team removed his clothes on the spot and started treatment, due to which he was taken to the hospital almost without clothes. Both the injured guards are still in critical condition and their treatment is ongoing.
