Often people come across some old item which reminds them of bygone times. Same thing happened with a man in America who was getting his house repaired when he found a letter in the wall. This letter was 100 years old. When he read the letter he was quite surprised. Then he did what no one could even imagine. He delivered the letter to its rightful owner.
A house was under repair in the US state of Wyoming. Then people found a 100 year old letter hidden inside the walls. This is the story of Curtis Smith, a resident of Casper city, who experienced something that he had never imagined during the renovation of his house. Smith’s house was built in the year 1917. It had a ‘Jack and Jill’ style bathroom, that is, a shared bathroom between two bedrooms, which is common in older houses. Smith told Newsweek that he decided to change this arrangement. The plan was to remove the bedroom wardrobe and create a small hallway there, so that the structure of the bathroom could be changed. The renovation started with dismantling the cupboard. Plaster and wooden structures were being removed. Smith was removing the broken debris and collecting it at a place, when he saw a blue envelope under the debris.

The person received an unknown letter
Smith says that at that moment he felt both surprise and happiness. Interestingly, just a few days ago he had jokingly told his family, “I wish I could find some old letter here.” Stopping his work, Smith opened the envelope and started reading the letter. The letter was dated September 1917 and was sent to a man named Cornelis Patrick Shea, referred to in the letter as ‘Con Shea’. Shea was originally from the Bantry area of Ireland and later settled in Wyoming. He was a sheep herder by profession. The language of the letter was very simple and emotional. Shia’s sister had sent this from Ireland. It thanked for the gift sent to America and mentioned the events taking place in Bantry. The letter also mentioned Shea and his wife Mary’s child, probably their son John, born in 1914. Good health and good wishes for the family were written in the letter, which makes it even more touching.
The envelope was delivered to the rightful owners
Encouraged by this discovery, Smith started searching for information about Con Shea on Google. They learned that Shea had achieved good success after coming to America and was a respected figure in the early Casper community. After this the story took a more interesting turn. Smith shared pictures of the letter on his Flickr account. After some time, a distant relative of Shia contacted him. There was a phone conversation between the two and the relative shared many old photographs and information related to Shia and his family. By December, Smith decided he would do something special with this letter. He found the address of a living relative of Shia and sent the letter to Boston. In this way, after almost 100 years, this letter reached its rightful owners. Smith also shared this entire experience on Reddit. Even today Smith does not fully know how this letter reached inside the wall. They believe that it may have been left intentionally as a ‘time capsule’, or it may have accidentally got stuck there during construction.
