In this context, a farmer from Wazirganj development block is earning an income of lakhs these days from cabbage farming. By adopting timely care, good quality seeds and correct irrigation methods, these farmers are achieving higher profits at lower costs.
While talking to Local 18, progressive farmer Pawan Maurya says that earlier he used to cultivate traditional crops like paddy and wheat, but it required more labor and less profit. After this he started cultivating cabbage. Cabbage is such a vegetable whose demand remains in the market throughout the year. Therefore the price is also good.
How did you get the idea?
Pawan Maurya tells that he studied till Intermediate. After that, due to some reason, he left his studies and turned his luck into farming. Today, brother and he are cultivating cabbage in about one acre. Pawan Maurya says that he is cultivating cauliflower in about 1 acre. Pawan Maurya tells that he got the idea of cultivating cauliflower from his father. His father was also cultivating cabbage. Seeing them since childhood, Pawan started cultivating cabbage.
Which variety is cauliflower?
Pawan Maurya tells that the cabbage is of desi variety which he prepares himself by adding nursery. There is always a demand for this cabbage in the market, due to which this cabbage is being cultivated. Approximately one acre costs ten to fifteen thousand rupees. He told that by investing ten to fifteen thousand rupees in one acre, a profit of about one lakh to one and a half lakh is being made in two and a half to three months.
Which fertilizer is used?
Pawan Maurya says that we hardly use chemical fertilizers in our fields. He told that we use Dayal Salt organic fertilizer in our cabbage crop. Apart from this, cow dung manure, vermi compost and green manure are used. This maintains the quality of the crop and also maintains the fertility of the soil. For this reason, the demand for our cabbage always remains in the market.
