Araria: Many types of festivals related to farming are celebrated in Mithila, in which Navanna also has special significance. As its name suggests, Navanna means arrival of new food in the house. Although this festival is celebrated in many parts of the country, the tradition of celebrating it in Mithila is completely different. Preparations for this festival, which takes place in the month of Aghan i.e. November-December, start a month in advance.
Recognition of Mithila’s special festival Navanna
This festival of nature is also indicative of the family tradition in Mithila. Sankranti of Ashwin month, which is also called Gabaha Sankranti. On the day of Navanna, a fire is lit in front of the Kul Devi with this cow dung cake. Early in the morning on the day of Lavan, a male member of the family goes from the field and brings back the harvested paddy. It is said that while leaving the house and bringing back the harvested paddy from the field, he neither speaks anything nor talks to anyone on the way. He places the paddy harvested from the field in front of the Kul Devi. The women of the house prepare chuda from that paddy.
Panch Ghani means it is prepared by pounding paddy in a mortar five times. Prasad is prepared by mixing raw milk and jaggery in the chuda made from it, which is offered to the fire god by all the members of the house. It is believed that the food offered to the fire reaches directly to the deity. A separate Prasad is prepared by adding curd and jaggery to the newly prepared Chuda, which is consumed by the family members. On this day, Brahmins are served food from this newly made chuda. On the day of Navanna, the family members eat rice made from new rice in the evening. There is also a tradition of not making bread at home on this day. From this day people start using new grains.
While talking to Local 18, Arun Jha of Araria district told that there is a tradition and belief related to the word Navanna in Mithilanchal. Therefore, at night a Brahmin meal of fish and mutton along with rice rice is served.

Their eating habits vary according to their region and religious traditions. At the same time, the people here are non-vegetarian, hence at night in Navan, Brahmins are fed fish and mutton in the food.
