The question of whether it is okay to burn incense sticks with a lighter or not has created a stir on social media. Aniruddhacharya Maharaj’s witty reply went viral and sparked a new debate among people. Know, what is its belief in Hindu traditions and what is considered to be the correct rule of burning incense sticks in puja.
Many traditions related to worship in India are centuries old. But, in today’s modern times, many new questions have also started emerging. One such interesting and interesting question recently went viral on social media – “Is it right to light incense sticks with a lighter during puja?”
This question was asked in a meeting to the famous storyteller Aniruddhacharya Maharaj, whom people fondly call Puki Baba. As soon as the devotee asked – “Baba, can we light the incense stick with a lighter?”, light laughter spread in the gathering. Baba smiled and said, “So how will you burn it? With a volcano?” On hearing this the entire pandal echoed with laughter. The devotee further said – “With which we light a cigarette…” On this Baba laughed and answered that question in a very casual manner – “The job of a lighter is to light it. Whether you light a cigarette with it, whether it is a forest or a pyre, fire is fire.” When the devotee expressed concern that what if a cigarette had been lit earlier with the same lighter? Baba immediately said – “Fire becomes a little impure… fire always remains fire.” This funny conversation was captured on camera and went viral on the internet. Because of his style, Puki Baba is famous as “Baba of Internet”.
