The customs of the British era were broken! Dalit families elected their head for the first time, wrote a new story

Dehradun: This time on the occasion of Budhi Diwali, something different and unique was seen in Jaunsar-Bawar of Uttarakhand. The people of the village were taking steps towards changing the practice that had been going on since the British era, and this time that change came true. A new tradition was played on the wooden elephant, which was never seen before. This occasion gave hope for change in the society and also inspired people to fight for their rights.

We are talking about the Dalit families of Bijnu Bijnad village of Jaunsar-Bawar who for the first time elected themselves the Sayana i.e. head of their community. He is also called Sayana or Sayana in the local language, who is the traditional head of the village. Who has the right to take decisions in the interest of cultural, social as well as village society.

For the first time, two Sayanas were elected in the village.
Actually, earlier only one Sayana was elected in this village. Who belonged to a rich family. But this time it did not happen, rather the Dalit families here decided to create their own identity. While 13 families chose the traditional Sayana, while 35 Dalit families chose the new Sayana Sunil Kumar. Both the Sayanas were taken for a ride on a wooden elephant on Budhi Diwali, due to which the scene of two Sayanas being present in the village was seen for the first time.

Got full support from administration
The villagers had sought protection from the administration for this new arrangement and for taking Sayana around on a wooden elephant. This program was completed in the presence of DM, SDM and BDO. The police-administration team also remained in the village, so that there was no problem.
