There is a stampede in West Bengal after SIR. Every day 150-200 Bangladeshis are crossing the border and fleeing to Bangladesh. Many such revelations are being made in the conversation with him, which are surprising. Imagine a person who had been working in India for 20 years, had got all the documents made, now when the screws tightened, he had to run away.
Since the start of the process of voter list revision i.e. SIR in West Bengal, the process of Bangladeshi citizens fleeing back to their country is continuing. These Bangladeshi citizens were living illegally in West Bengal for years. Many of them came to India through brokers 15-20 years ago, but now they have to leave. Because they were afraid that if they stopped, they might be sent to jail. These pictures are of Hakimpur village of North 24 Parganas district. On the streets where Bangladeshi citizens are waiting to cross the border and return to their country. Many Bangladeshi citizens say that they used to do small jobs here and came to West Bengal by paying money to middlemen. Local people also believe that the migration of Bangladeshi citizens is happening because of the ongoing SIR process in West Bengal. Krishnapad Das, a resident of Hakimpur, says, we have never seen people coming like this. As far as I know, I have never seen anything like this. I had never imagined that he would come like this or go like this. When he was asked whether there is no bitterness between Hindus and Muslims? So he said, there is no problem between Hindus and Muslims here. We all live together in peace. There has been no riot or fight here. Both Hindus and Muslims live together like brothers.
