For all that England has been criticized for, Australia deserves a huge amount of credit.
If England had been told they would be playing an Australian team without Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon, they would have been rubbing their hands with joy.
And yet Australia cruised to victory in Brisbane with all their other players standing.
Mitchell Starc has been absolutely exceptional, supported by Michael Neser, Scott Boland and Brendan Doggett.
Alex Carey gave an absolute masterclass behind the stumps, possibly the best wicketkeeping performance I have ever seen, and I played with Ian Healy and Adam Gilchrist.
Perhaps the biggest revelation for Australia has been the change in the batting order.
Before the series, when there seemed to be a lot of discussion about Australia’s lineup, I said there was really only debate about one area: Usman Khawaja’s opening partner.
That debate was resolved, but not in the way anyone expected.
Since Travis Head raised his hand to start when Khawaja was injured in Perth, Australia have looked a different team. Now, there appears to be an opportunity for Head and Jake Weatherald to establish themselves as the starting pairing.
Khawaja could find it difficult to return, although Australia coach Andrew McDonald has suggested he could bat at number five.
