Agra News: There is a building in Agra named 64 Khamba. Actually this building is located in front of Agra Mathura Road and Ashopa Hospital, ISBT. This Mughal period building is near the tomb of Sadiq Khan-Salabat Khan. This is the first building in which a father and son are said to be buried together.
Agra: Agra in Uttar Pradesh was called the capital of the Mughals. Mughal kings lived and ruled here for many years. The Mughals ruled from Agra Fort. Hundreds of Mughal era buildings in Agra are today the center of attraction for tourists. There is one such building whose name is 64 Khamba. Actually this building is located in front of Agra Mathura Road and Ashopa Hospital, ISBT. This Mughal period building is near the tomb of Sadiq Khan-Salabat Khan. This is the first building in which a father and son are said to be buried together.
Salabat Khan lived in this building, who held the post of Mir Bakshi i.e. royal treasurer of Emperor Shahjahan. Salabat Khan, son of Sadiq Khan, had got a mansab of four thousand rupees in the court of Shahjahan. Today his tomb is known as 64 Khamba. According to history, this building was constructed between 1644 and 1650. According to historians, Amar Singh Rathore had killed Salabat Khan in the court of Mughal emperor Shahjahan, after which this mausoleum was built. At present the grave is missing from the mausoleum and there is an empty space. This 64 pillar building is made of red stones, which is very beautiful and attractive.
What is the secret of 64 pillars?
Historian Raj Kishore Sharma tells that this building is called 64 Khamba. He told that it does not have 64 pillars, but still it is called by this name. It is very attractive and amazingly made. The chambers located in the basement of this building have been filled with debris and closed. There is no dome in the building. There are small bastions on the four corners of this beautiful building. The main gate of the tomb is towards the highway. This building is currently protected under the Archaeological Department of India. At some distance from 64 Khamba, in the same complex, the tomb of Salabat Khan’s father Sadiq Khan is built on a high mound.
Currently encroachment is happening all around
Historian Raj Kishore Sharma said that the 64 Khamba building is currently surrounded by encroachment on all sides. Due to encroachment all around, many people are unable to see it. Despite being under ASI, no attention is being paid to this building. Tourists should be told about this place. People will like this beautiful building very much. He said that ASI should publish a book which has information about all the small and big buildings, so that people coming to Agra read the book and go to see that building.
