Hyderabad. A Telangana government official allegedly faked his death to claim an insurance amount of over Rs 7 crore. He was arrested in Medak district along with four others including his wife and two relatives. This information was given in a report by news agency PTI. The main accused was working as an Assistant Section Officer (ASO) in the Telangana State Secretariat.
Actually, he suffered a loss of Rs 85 lakh in the stock market and after that he made a plan along with his wife and relatives. Police said he allegedly killed a person and staged his death to claim the insurance amount to recover from losses and settle his debts.
The police had assumed that the body was that of a government official.
As part of the plan, the officer and others hatched a plan to kill his look-alike in order to claim the insurance amount. Police said that he bought 25 insurance policies worth Rs 7.4 crore in his name in the last one year. Actually, a burnt car was found in Medak district of Telangana in which a dead body was found, the police had assumed that the dead body belonged to Dharma, Assistant Section Officer in Telangana State Secretariat, but the case took a dramatic turn, as the police found him alive.
Identification of the deceased from the car’s registration number and identity card
Dharma was allegedly arrested from Goa and brought to Hyderabad. A completely burnt car along with the charred body of a man was found on the outskirts of Venkatpur village in the district on January 9, a Medak police official said. A half-filled bottle of petrol and a bag were found near the car. Police identified the deceased as 48-year-old Dharma on the basis of the car’s registration number and identity card found in the bag. The police suspected that the car might have fallen into the ditch from the embankment on which there was no railing. By registering a case of suspicious death, the police started investigation from all aspects.
Secret revealed on tracing Dharma’s mobile phone
The dramatic turn in the case came when during the investigation the police tried to trace Dharma’s mobile phone. Based on the signal of the mobile phone, the police tracked the device to Goa. A police team reached Goa and found Dharma alive. He was taken into custody and brought to Telangana. Dharma allegedly killed the car driver to fake his death for the insurance amount. He was in debt due to speculation and thought of claiming the insurance amount to repay the debt. His family members also met him.
