Hyderabad. A 23-year-old food delivery boy sustained grievous injuries after he jumped from the third floor of a building in fear of a barking pet dog in Hyderabad. Now he died during treatment. After battling for life for four days, Mohammad Rizwan (23) breathed his last at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) late on Sunday night. Rizwan, who was working for food delivery app Swiggy, had gone to deliver a parcel at an apartment building in Banjara Hills on January 11.
According to the police, he had gone to the third floor of the Lumbini Rock Castle Apartment. When he knocked on the door of a flat, a dog rushed towards him. While trying to save himself, Rizwan jumped from the third floor and got seriously injured. Flat owner Shobhana had called an ambulance and admitted him to the hospital.
Rizwan’s brother Mohammad Khaja lodged a complaint with the Banjara Hills police and demanded action. The family of Rizwan, a resident of Sriram Nagar in Yusufguda area of the city, has demanded justice. He said that the customer is not answering phone calls after promising to bear the cost of the treatment.
Anti-corruption activist Vijay Gopal demanded that the owner should be booked under section 338 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as the dog was not tied up. He said that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) should check whether the owner had a license for the dog.
