Success Story of Sushila Devi: With the onset of winter, people have to face severe cold and shivering. While many people use heaters, the traditional use of fireplaces to keep homes warm and earthen stoves for cooking continues in rural areas of Haryana. Sushila Devi of Ambala has been making and selling fireplaces, tandoors and stoves for the last 30 years. The stoves made by pottery artisan Sushila are in huge demand in the surrounding areas during winters and she has been supporting her two daughters for years with this ancestral work. While talking to Local 18, Sushila Devi Prajapati told that she has been making stoves, tandoors and fireplaces from clay since childhood and took over this inheritance from her mother-in-law after marriage. Small stoves start selling at Rs 300 and fireplaces at Rs 500.
