Chief Election Commissioner: Sushil Chandra was appointed Election Commissioner on 14 February 2019 before the Lok Sabha elections. He will be relieved of his new office on 14 May 2022
In accordance with the tradition of appointing the most senior commissioner as the Chief Election Commissioner, the government has approved his name for the top post in the ‘Election House’. Chandra will take over on 13 April. Currently, the outgoing CEC Sunil Arora is carrying out this responsibility.
Became Election Commissioner in February 2019
Chandra was appointed Election Commissioner on 14 February 2019 before the Lok Sabha elections. He will be relieved of his new post on 14 May 2022. Elections in many states next year
The Election Commission under Chandra’s leadership will conduct assembly elections in Goa, Manipur, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. The term of Goa, Manipur, Uttarakhand and Punjab Legislative Assembly is being completed in March next year. The term of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly is being completed on May 14 next year.
