Rishikesh : As soon as the winter season arrives, many types of notions are formed in people’s minds regarding food. One of the most common beliefs is that eating curd in winter causes cold, cough or cold. This has been repeated in homes for years, due to which people stay away from curd during the cold season. But Ayurveda proves this thinking wrong. The truth is that curd eaten in the right way and at the right time is no less than a superfood for the body in winter. Curd not only keeps the digestion healthy but also strengthens the immunity, which is most important in the cold season.
Dr. Rajkumar (Ayush) told Local 18 that curd is a natural probiotic food, which contains good bacteria. These bacteria improve our stomach health and strengthen the digestive system. In winter, people often drink less water and eat more heavy and fried food, due to which problems like gas, constipation and indigestion increase. In such a situation, curd helps in providing relief from these problems.
Should we eat curd in winter season?
There is a higher risk of weakening of immunity in the winter season. People fall ill quickly due to cold air, change in temperature and viral infections. The probiotics and nutrients present in curd are helpful in increasing the immunity of the body. It gives the body strength to fight infections and prevents common diseases like cold and cough. It is also believed that curd cools the body, hence it should not be eaten in winter. Whereas the reality is that curd helps in keeping the body temperature balanced. If curd is eaten properly then it does not have any negative effect on the body.
Best time to eat curd during cold days
The right way to eat curd in winter also matters a lot. It is considered best to eat curd during the day, especially in the afternoon. Eating very cold curd at night can cause cough problems for some people, hence it is better to avoid curd at night. Eating curd mixed with a little roasted cumin, black pepper or rock salt becomes more beneficial. This balances the quality of curd and also improves digestion.
