In the Vindhya region of Madhya Pradesh, goat milk is considered not only a tradition but also a treasure of health. People of rural areas have been consuming it here for centuries. In Ayurveda, goat milk has been described as full of medicinal properties. It is light in taste, easy to digest and an excellent source of nutrients. For those who find cow or buffalo milk heavy, goat milk can prove to be a better option. Especially for children, it is no less than a medicine.
Health expert Dr. R.P. Parouha told Local 18 that the fat globules present in goat milk are very small in size. This is the reason why this milk gets digested quickly and is considered very beneficial for people suffering from gas, acidity and indigestion. It contains small amount of protein called casein, which often causes milk allergy and digestive problems.
According to Dr. Parouha, goat milk is like a natural medicine to increase immunity. The selenium, zinc and antioxidant elements present in it give the body the ability to fight bacteria and viruses. Regular consumption significantly reduces the risk of cold, seasonal fever and infection. This milk is no less than a panacea for bones. It contains high amounts of calcium, phosphorus and vitamin D, which is helpful in preventing problems like osteoporosis in children. At the same time, it is also beneficial for heart patients because cholesterol level is found low in it. Magnesium and potassium keep blood pressure under control, while iron and vitamin B12 are effective in increasing hemoglobin.
Not only health, goat milk is also a boon for beauty. Dr. Parouha explains that the lactic acid present in it moisturizes the skin and makes it soft. This is the reason why goat milk is used in many beauty products and Ayurvedic soaps. The doctor told that mother’s milk is best for the child after birth. But if in any situation mother’s milk is not available, then goat’s milk is considered the safest and easiest. However, the doctor advises that this milk should be from those goats which graze in the forest and eat natural leaves. Packet milk bought from the market is never a good option for children.
The doctor told that cow’s milk contains less iron, hence some jaggery can be mixed in it before giving milk to small children. However, giving too much jaggery increases the risk of stomach worms. In such a situation, use of Palash seeds is a natural remedy. Grinding it and mixing it with honey and giving it a little daily helps in eliminating stomach worms of children and strengthens their digestive system.
