Kolkata, India is a country of diversities. The culture of the country is settled in the villages here. You must have heard a lot of normal and common names of the village, but what would you say if you came to know that the name of a village is Thermocol. A small village in West Bengal is attracting people’s attention because of its strange name. Different types of products are made from thermocol in this village. Due to this the livelihood of the people here runs, hence the name of this village itself became Thermocol.

About 60 families live in this village and earn their living by selling thermocol items. It is being told that for a long time every family of this village is running their house by making things made of thermocol.

Used to bring thermocol from Assam

It is being told that earlier the people of the village used to buy thermocol from Assam, but after some time the business got over from here. Since then they are getting thermocol from Kolkata. Here some of the major items made of thermocol include crowns of the bride and groom, wedding garlands, garlands for various gods and goddesses. Local people say that earlier the demand for such items used to be very high, but now people use more things made of plastic.

Dhirendra Nath Malakar, a resident of the village, says that a total of 50 to 60 families live here. They are earning their living mainly by making articles made of thermocol. But as time is passing, people have started reducing the use of items made by thermocol.

People trying to save thermocol industry

Despite facing many problems, the residents of Shola village are working day and night to maintain the thermocol industry. Another resident of the village says that if people do not buy these things, then how will our family run. He also claimed that the residents of Shola village have not received any help from the government.
