Wherever you go in the country, whether it is your own house or that of a relative, the first thing you see when you open the kitchen are the red and yellow boxes of MDH. Everyone has faith only in MDH Masala. There is only one reason for such tremendous demand – purity and taste, on which Dharampal Gulati ji never compromised. Nowadays, many new masala brands have come in the market, but MDH is still at the number one position. The name of the person who raised this flag of success is Mahashay Dharampal Gulati. Today is his death anniversary, so we are going to tell you how he gave a new identity to MDH.
“Real masala sach sach, mdh mdh!” You must have heard this line many times. As soon as you hear this, a picture comes to your mind of that old uncle who smiles while twirling his moustache. But do you know that this face is that of Dharampal Gulati, owner of India’s most famous spice brand MDH.
Dharampal Gulati died on 3 December 2020 at the age of 97 and today 3 December is the death anniversary of MDH Masala Company owner Dharampal Gulati. Gulati ji received the country’s third highest civilian award in 2019.
Dharampal Gulati was born on 27 March 1923 in Sialkot, Pakistan. When he did not feel like studying, he studied only till the fifth class and at the young age of 14, he got involved in business with his father. At that time people fondly called him ‘Degi Mirch wale’, because his Degi Mirch was famous in the entire area. It was from here that the foundation of that small shop was laid which later became the largest spice brand in the country.
Like millions of people, Dharampal Gulati ji also had to leave Pakistan and come to Delhi during the partition of 1947. At that time he had only Rs 1500, but his courage was so great that it was impossible to give up. After reaching Delhi, he first drove a tanga, raised his family and somehow managed to earn money.
Then opened a small spice shop in Karol Bagh. It was from here that the struggle and journey began which later took MDH to the kitchen of every Indian home. Within a short time, Dharampal Gulati became famous as Masala King in the country. His spice business became so successful that today he has many spice factories across the country.
The total wealth of MDH founder Dharampal Gulati ji was said to be more than Rs 5400 crore in 2020 and today the value of his company MDH is between Rs 10 thousand to 15 thousand crore. A tanga driver built such a huge empire with hard work and honesty that today his masala is available in every kitchen.
If there is so much demand for MDH spices across the country, then the main reason behind it is quality and taste. Without these two things, no spice manufacturing company will be able to survive in the market.
