Sarhasa: A positive and inspiring news has come out from Saharsa. Students of Mandal Bharti Agricultural College have taken a unique initiative to protect the environment and help the farmers. Students of different semesters studying in Agriculture College have converted a serious problem like water hyacinth into an opportunity and prepared organic fertilizer from it. The special thing is that this fertilizer is being made available to the farmers at just Rs.10.
Water hyacinth is a big problem
In today’s time, water hyacinth has become a big environmental problem. Ponds, rivers and reservoirs get completely covered with water hyacinth, which not only increases water pollution but also affects activities like irrigation, fish farming and water harvesting. In view of this problem, students and teachers of Saharsa Agriculture College did research on it and conducted a successful experiment of preparing organic fertilizer from water hyacinth.
Compost made by processing water hyacinth
Rajesh Kumar, assistant professor at Mandal Bharti Agricultural College, said that many such nutrients are found in water hyacinth, which are very beneficial for the soil. When processed properly, the compost prepared from it works to increase the fertility of the soil. This fertilizer not only improves the quality of crops, but also maintains the health of the soil in the long run.
Improvement in crop production by use of this fertilizer
Rajesh Kumar also told that in today’s era, the natural strength of the soil is weakening due to excessive use of chemical fertilizers. In such a situation, this organic fertilizer prepared from water hyacinth has emerged as a better and cheaper option for the farmers. The use of this fertilizer improves crop production and also provides nutrition to the micro-organisms present in the soil.
This fertilizer is becoming increasingly popular
Students of Agriculture College have played an important role in this project. The students collected water hyacinth, processed it scientifically and then prepared it as fertilizer. With the help of the college administration, it is being delivered to the farmers. Available at a nominal price of just Rs 10, this fertilizer is becoming increasingly popular among farmers. Local farmers say that the use of this organic fertilizer is showing good results in their crops. Also, due to being available at low cost, it is proving to be very beneficial for small and marginal farmers also.
