The royal banquet at Rashtrapati Bhavan gave a special color to the Modi-Putin meeting. India’s diversity shone through in the vegetarian state banquet prepared by President Draupadi Murmu. From Gucchi Doon Chetin of Kashmir to Jhol Momo of the Eastern Himalayas and Murukku of South India, the menu was a mini-India. There was a great display of diplomatic respect through food.
The main course consisted of Jafrani Paneer Roll, Palak-Matar Saag, Achari Brinjal and Peeli Dal Tadka, served with Kesar Pulao and various Indian rotis. For dessert, almond halwa and saffron-pistachio kulfi completed the menu. This meal was a warm welcome message of Indian hospitality.
Naval Band and classical artists created a special tune of friendship by playing Indian and Russian compositions together. The song from Shahrukh Khan’s film and the Russian folk tune ‘Kalinka’ resonated on the same stage. Sarod, Sarangi, Tabla and Tchaikovsky’s tunes gave cultural color to diplomacy.
Just a few hours before the dinner, the two leaders had a detailed discussion on energy cooperation. Putin reiterated his commitment to continue fuel supply to India. The royal banquet gave a new dimension of cordiality to these discussions, where the seriousness of relationships was easily reflected between food and conversation.
As the last formal program of the two-day visit to India, this banquet was very symbolic. Delicious Indian cuisine, music and warmth made Putin’s farewell special.
