Chanchal Pankara Success Story: Chanchal Pankara from Surajpur district of Chhattisgarh brought glory to the family and the entire region by securing first position in the Scheduled Tribe category in CGPSC 2024. His father Raghubir Pankra had even sold his land for studies. Despite failing for the first time, Chanchal did not give up and after three years of hard work, she was successful in all three stages – prelims, mains and interview.
Raipur : Raghubir Pankra’s face looks familiar to everyone outside Sitapur High School in Surajpur district of Chhattisgarh. Almost every day they set up a small shop on the roadside to sell vegetables. His wife Kuntila also comes along when there is not much work in the fields.
A few years ago the couple had sold most of their land. The reason was the education and coaching of daughter Chanchal Pankra. Chanchal wanted to join civil services. Today his hard work paid off. 23-year-old Chanchal secured first position in the Scheduled Tribe category in the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission Examination 2024 and the overall rank was 204. Now she will become Deputy Collector. “Our daughter was very smart from the beginning,” Raghubir told the media. “We had very little, but we did not want our daughter’s dreams to remain small.”
Chanchal’s childhood was spent in Karabel village of Sitapur assembly constituency. He studied in the government school of the village, then took admission in Eklavya Model Residential School, Sarna. There he topped his class in tenth and twelfth. After this he did B.Tech in Civil Engineering from Jagdalpur Engineering College. Then she went to Bilaspur to prepare for State Civil Services. After failing in Prelims for the first time, Chanchal did not give up. Worked hard for three years and finally passed all three stages – Prelims, Mains and Interview. Chanchal says, “Papa sold the land for my preparation. Seeing my parents working hard day and night gave me more enthusiasm.”
Today she gives a message to the tribal youth – “Tribal children often remain silent, consider themselves inferior. But do not make your situation an excuse. This very situation can give you the strength to move forward. Just work hard continuously, this has been my mantra.” Two more youths from Sitapur area were successful this time. Mayank Mandvi of Katnaipara stood second in ST category and 210th overall. Prasun Gupta made his way to becoming DSP by securing 36th rank. The daughter of a small village has shown that if the dreams are big and the hard work is honest, then no difficulty can stop the path. Chanchal Pankra has today become an example for the tribal children of not only Surajpur but entire Chhattisgarh.
