Motivational Story: Rohini first did engineering and then MBA but her heart was in pearl farming. Left his job at LNT and started this work on the roof of his house. Now she is earning 60-70 thousand rupees every month. She also inspired other women for this work.
Ranchi. Rohini, a resident of Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, used to work in a big company like LNT after studying engineering. But he did not feel like going there. In such a situation, he had seen pearls from the beginning and somewhere on TV he saw that pearl farming is also done. It was from there that it came to his mind that he too had to cultivate it and he started pearl cultivation from a small space on the roof of his house.
You play with pebbles, we used to play with beads.
Rohini told Local 18, I did engineering from Nagpur and then also did MBA. She used to play with pebbles in her childhood. Then someone told me that you play with pebbles, we used to play with beads. In such a situation, Moti had settled in my mind. Then I came to know that pearl farming also takes place, which I did not know at all. So I thought why not do the same thing and then I resigned from the job.
Rohini says, actually when I started taking training in pearl farming, I came to know that even a small balcony is enough for this. In such a situation, there is a small space in my house, 10×20, so I started working in that space.
Cost of one pearl is ₹45, profit is ₹150
He told, we have to prepare sweet water and clean the water. All these instruments come with different instruments. We learned oyster selection, feeding, water quality, disease management and techniques to produce high quality design pearls during the training. Then this work started in 10 big tubs. One pearl costs Rs 45. One oyster makes a profit of up to Rs 150 when sold on an online website like Indiamart.
The demand for pearls is so high that India is unable to fulfill it.
Rohini says that we chose this work because the demand for pearls is very high. Especially high quality pearls are imported into India from outside. This means that high quality pearls are not being produced in sufficient quantity in India yet. In such a situation, when the pearl is ready, we do not have to think about selling it. There are thousands of people to take. In such a situation, one can easily earn Rs 60-70 thousand in a month.
Become your own boss, what else do you need?
Smiling, he said that it feels good that he is his own boss today. There is no tension now. Earlier one had to obey someone’s orders. But today the situation is that we have added four-five women with us. People from nearby come to the terrace to see what is happening. We tell them also and they too have taken inspiration and started this work. If 10 women are getting inspired after seeing me, then it is a big thing for me. Now it feels like we are giving something to the society.
