West Bengal SIR: Governor C.V. Anand Bose said that he will visit Swarupnagar BSF post on the return of Bangladeshi migrants and see the ground situation regarding Voter List Revision (SIR) himself. He said that SIR is an ‘important and important’ work being done by the Election Commission of India.
Kolkata. Taking cognizance of reports of ongoing ‘reverse migration’ of hundreds of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh in view of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state, West Bengal Governor C.V. Anand Bose will visit the BSF border post at Swarupnagar in North 24 Parganas district to take first-hand stock of the ground situation there.
Officials said Bose is expected to reach Hakimpara area of Swarupnagar at around 3 pm on Monday. He said that after talks with BSF officials there, he plans to rest for the night at Krishnanagar in Nadia district and visit the border areas of Murshidabad on Tuesday.
Bose told reporters in Kolkata, ‘There are many interpretations of media reports of attempts by illegal Bangladeshi immigrants to return to their country after a special and intensive revision of the voter list in the state. I want to take stock of the ground situation with my own eyes, so that I can form my own opinion.
He said that SIR is an ‘important and important’ work being done by the Election Commission of India. He said, ‘If there are any complaints against it, I am confident that the Election Commission will resolve them all. I hope everything will be fine. All is well that ends well.’
