West Bengal SIR News: Once again a serious case of infiltration has come to light in Korakati Gram Panchayat area of Sandeshkhali Block-2 of West Bengal. Local residents have claimed that many Bangladeshi citizens have been living illegally under booth number 235 for years and are also taking benefits of government schemes. These people have allegedly made Indian documents like Aadhar Card, Voter Card, Ration Card with the help of local leaders. They are getting free ration facilities like Lakshmir Bhandar.
This matter has come to light after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process started. The villagers allege that these Bangladeshi citizens had crossed the border many years ago and settled here under the protection of some local leaders. After getting the documents made, these people started living as full-fledged Indian citizens. The villagers have put forward many names. One person among them is Shaheen Ghazi, who is living as the son of local Jamir Ghazi, but according to the villagers, he is originally Bangladeshi. Shaheen currently works as a clothes seller in Tamil Nadu. Similarly, a woman Marjina Bibi is also accused of being a Bangladeshi. Villagers say that she is living as the daughter of her uncle Noor Ali Ghazi.
However, Marjina denied these allegations and said that she is from here, only her husband is Bangladeshi. Marjina’s husband Gafur Mollah openly admitted that his house is in Paruli Gorur Haat, Bangladesh. I came to India illegally and never went back. Ghafur does not have a voter card, but he said that he gets rice and wheat under the Food Security Scheme and he also has other government documents. The villagers took the name of another woman, Anjura Shaikh, who allegedly got a voter card made by posing as the daughter of Amirul Shaikh and is living illegally.
Similarly, Habibul Shaikh is accused of creating an Indian identity by showing his father-in-law as his father in the documents and now he works as a laborer in another state. Villagers say that dozens of such Bangladeshi families are living in booth number 235. An elderly villager, on the condition of anonymity, said that for years we have been seeing that new people come and settle down. Earlier their language and lifestyle seemed different, but after the document was made no one said anything. Now that SIR has started the truth is coming out.
This matter has created huge tension in the area. Local people are demanding from the administration that all the suspects should be thoroughly investigated and the infiltrators should be thrown out. A young man said that the facilities which should be provided to the real population of our area are being provided to the people coming from outside. This is sheer injustice.
BJP leaders have raised this issue loudly. A senior leader of the state BJP said that Sandeshkhali was earlier in the news for the atrocities of Shahjahan Sheikh, now Bangladeshi infiltration is being exposed. It is the failure of the state government that only food is being supplied in the name of border security. Trinamool Congress has not yet given any official statement on this matter. The local Trinamool leader said that the SIR process is going on, whatever goes wrong will be rectified. It is not right to make allegations without evidence.
The district administration has started investigation into this matter. An official of the DM office said that we have received complaints. A list of all the names is being made and related documents are being examined. Legal action will be taken against whoever is found illegal. Sandeshkhali had earlier also been in the news for political violence and atrocities on women. Now the new case of Bangladeshi infiltration is raising serious questions on the social fabric of the area. All eyes are on how many more such cases will come to light during the SIR process in the coming days.
