The ongoing political turmoil within the Congress government in Karnataka regarding change of leadership has intensified. Some Congress MLAs, who reached Delhi demanding that Deputy CM DK Shivkumar be made the Chief Minister, said on Tuesday that the final decision will be taken by the party high command.
Ramnagar MLA Iqbal Hussain reiterated that everyone will respect the decision of the high command, but he has full confidence in Shivkumar becoming the Chief Minister. Hussain said, ‘I stand by my statement… 200 percent, he will soon become the Chief Minister. Only the high command will decide. Our leader (Shivkumar) has also said that the decision to transfer power is a ‘secret deal’ made between five-six big leaders, only they will take the decision.
Maddur MLA KM Uday said that the MLAs have also put forward the demand of giving opportunity to youth and new faces during the cabinet reshuffle in front of the high command and positive signals have been received for this. On the demand of changing the Chief Minister, he said that the decision will be taken by the leadership and everyone will follow it.
Many MLAs have requested the high command to end the ongoing confusion regarding the post of Chief Minister. The Congress government has completed half of its term on November 20, after which the talk of an alleged power-sharing agreement between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar in 2023 is gaining momentum again.
Magadi MLA HC Balakrishna said that the high command will decide who will be the next Chief Minister, but he appealed that a decision should be taken immediately on the current situation which is hurting the party. He said, ‘We met the high command so that the confusion is cleared. It is not important who becomes the Chief Minister, but the ongoing confusion is not good for the Congress.
On the other hand, while reacting on these activities of the legislature party, Deputy CM Shivkumar said that he has no information about this. He said, ‘I don’t know why they left. Perhaps he had gone to demand a ministerial post. I didn’t call anyone or talk to anyone. I don’t even need it.
