Stock Market Today: The third trading session of the week in the Indian stock market on Wednesday, December 17, had a positive start to the trading day. Major benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 opened trading in the green.
The 30-share BSE Sensex index opened at 84,856.26 points with a rise of 176.40 points or 0.21 per cent, while the NSE Nifty 50 opened at 25,902.40 with a rise of 42.30 points or 0.16 per cent.
By around 9:20 am, the Sensex was trading 19 points higher at 84,699 points, while the Nifty 50 was trading 17 points higher at 25,877.

How was the market on Tuesday?
On Tuesday, December 16, there was a huge decline in the Indian stock market and both the major benchmark indices closed trading in the red. Sensex fell by 533.50 points or 0.63 percent to 84,679.86 points, while NSE Nifty 50 slipped by 167.20 points or 0.64 percent and ended the trading day at 25,860.10.
Titan, Bharti Airtel, Mahindra & Mahindra, Asian Paint and Tech Mahindra were the top gainers from the BSE basket. Talking about the top losers, Axis Bank, Eternal, Tata Steel and HCL were taking the lead. There was a decline in the shares of Nifty IT, Nifty Smallcap 100, Nifty FMCG, Nifty Bank, Nifty Auto and Nifty 100. On Tuesday’s trading day, 8 shares from BSE basket closed in the green and 22 shares recorded a decline.
