Patna: Record breaking cold is being seen in Bihar these days. The situation is such that cold is being felt during the day compared to the night. The record of the last 14 years has been broken in the capital Patna. For the second consecutive day in the month of December, the maximum temperature remained around 15 degrees Celsius. People were seen shivering throughout the day due to dense fog and cold westerly winds.
According to the data received from Meteorological Center, Patna, in the last 14 years, this year i.e. 2025, 19 December was the coldest day recorded in Patna. The maximum temperature recorded on this day was 14.8 degrees Celsius. After this, on the next day i.e. 20th December, the maximum temperature of Patna was recorded at 16.6 degree Celsius, that is, no significant change was seen in the temperature. Cold day like situation prevailed in 16 districts on Saturday. The weather is expected to remain similar today also.
Today there is dense fog in these districts
According to the forecast released by IMD, today i.e. Sunday morning, there was dense fog in West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Sitamarhi, Shivhar, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, Samastipur, Kaimur, Rohtas, Aurangabad and Gaya. Cold day like situation prevailed in all these 16 districts on Saturday. The effect of fog continued in the remaining districts. Even on Saturday, sunshine was not seen in many districts including Patna.
Cold day like conditions will prevail throughout the day in these districts
According to the forecast, snowfall in the snowy areas and due to western disturbance, the cold westerly wind coming from the Himalayan regions has made the weather absolutely cold. Its effect will remain even today. Today, cold day like conditions will prevail in western and central parts of the state including Patna, West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Sitamarhi, Shivhar, Muzaffarpur, Buxar, Kaimur. There is very little chance of sunshine in these districts even today. The maximum day temperature in these parts is expected to be between 14°C to 20°C. Whereas in the eastern districts it can remain between 20-25°C. There is a possibility of a slight decline in wind speed.
Lowest day temperature in these districts
On Saturday, the maximum day temperature in most of the districts was around 15°C. In this, the lowest maximum temperature was recorded at 15°C in Pusa, 15.2°C in Muzaffarpur, 15.6°C in Jiradei, Darbhanga and Madhubani, 16°C in Motihari, Valmikinagar, 16.1°C in Madhepura and 16.6°C in Patna. Except Forbesganj and Kishanganj, the maximum temperature of all the districts was recorded between 15°C to 20°C.
A look at the temperature from 2011 to 2025
If we look at the data of maximum temperature of Patna in the last 14 years, big fluctuations are seen in the weather. In the year 2011, the maximum temperature of December was recorded at 28.7 degrees Celsius, while in 2012 it was 28.9 degrees and in 2013 it was 27.4 degrees. The maximum temperature recorded in 2014 was 29.4 degrees Celsius. After this, the temperature increased to 30.4 degrees in 2015, while in 2016 it was 28.3 degrees and in 2017 it was 29.6 degrees. In the year 2018, the maximum temperature was recorded at 28.4 degrees, while in 2019 it decreased to 27.2 degrees and in 2020 it was 27.0 degrees. In 2021, the temperature again increased to 29.2 degrees, while in 2022 it remained 27.4 degrees. In the year 2023, the maximum temperature reached a record level of 32.0 degrees Celsius. In comparison, the temperature in 2024 was recorded at 27.4 degrees, while in 2025 the maximum temperature was only 14.8 degrees Celsius. This is the lowest in the last 14 years.
