Israeli researchers have made an important discovery that has raised hopes of understanding and slowing down aging. The team at Ben-Gurion University has identified a special type of immune cell present in the blood, which helps in removing old and damaged cells that accumulate in the body.
Scientists say that if these cells continue to function properly, a person can remain healthy for a longer time. These cells are called T-helper cells. With increasing age, these cells change into such a form that identify and eliminate “senescent cells,” that is, old and inactive cells.
Will help when removed from body
These senescent cells increase inflammation in the body, damage organs, and cause many age-related diseases. Therefore removing them can be very beneficial for the body.
Research done on rats
When the research team experimented on rats, they found that if the number of these special T helper cells is reduced, then the aging process in rats accelerates and their life span also decreases. This made it clear that these cells play an important role in protecting the body from aging.
This special thing was found in people who lived more than 100 years
The most interesting thing was that when scientists tested the blood of people above 100 years of age, these special cells were found to be much more abundant in them than in common people. This strengthened the idea that the secret to a long and healthy life may be linked to these immune cells.
Age can be controlled
Scientists say that this discovery can help in developing such tests or treatments in the future, which can find out what is the “real age” of the body and how it can be stopped from growing slowly. Currently, the research is in the early stages, but expectations are high because the goal is not just to live longer, but to stay healthy and active for longer.
