New Delhi. Ever since American tech giant Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella met Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently, many speculations have started about his intentions regarding India. Now Nadella himself has told what his biggest objective is regarding India. He has clearly indicated that Microsoft will not only invest here, but will also benefit millions of youth. Besides, strategic partnerships with many leading tech companies have also been disclosed.
Nadella said that his company is committed to India’s artificial intelligence (AI) environment and is investing in infrastructure on a large scale. Microsoft is focusing on skilling millions of Indians for an AI-driven future by strengthening its presence in the ‘cloud’ space. Besides, Microsoft also announced strategic partnership with 4 major IT companies Cognizant, Infosys, TCS and Wipro. These companies will work together with Microsoft to accelerate the adoption of ‘agentic’ AI.
The company is excited about investment
Speaking at an event, Nadella said that we are very excited about investing in India, so that we can bring best-in-class infrastructure here. For this the company is investing 17.5 billion dollars. Nadella called it Microsoft’s biggest investment in Asia. Microsoft’s chairman stressed on the rapid expansion of the company’s ‘cloud network’ across the country. He said that we are developing ‘Azure’ as the world’s computer and we have more than 70 data center regions around the world. Our presence in India is continuously growing. Now we have networks in Central India, West India, South India and we have also partnered with Jio.
What is Azure and how does it work?
‘Azure’ is a comprehensive ‘cloud computing’ platform provided by Microsoft. On this, companies and developers can create, run and manage their applications, websites, databases, storage, AI models and servers online. That too without purchasing your own ‘physical server’. He said that a new data center area will become operational in the year 2026. We are very happy that next year we will have a new digital center in the southern region of the country. The best part is that it is completely eco-friendly.
Promoting sovereignty in AI sector
He also stressed the importance of digital sovereignty and cyber security in this era of increasing use of AI. Nadella said that we are ensuring that there is a wide range of options regarding sovereignty. So you have a public ‘cloud’, there are sovereign controls in the public cloud. He warned that sovereignty cannot be seen separately from security.

Microsoft Chairman said that recently he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi who showed great enthusiasm about this investment ($17.5 billion) to accelerate society, economy and growth. He said this commitment is in addition to the $3 billion investment announced during his previous visit. Regarding the availability of talent in India, Nadella said that the company will focus more on its skill development programs. We are now going to train two crore people across India in AI skills.
GitHub will arrive in 5 years
Nadella also said that initiatives like the government’s e-Shram program show how AI can uplift unorganized workers. He said that India is ready to become the world’s leading community with ‘GitHub’ by 2030. GitHub is a web-based platform designed for version control and collaboration. It is mainly used by developers to ‘store’, manage and share software code. It is based on the open-source version control system Git. It offers a user-friendly graphical interface and a large choice of collaboration tools.
