Just 15 years after getting independence from the British rule, India had to face a war for which it was not ready at all. The country was also not able to make arrangements to protect the soldiers from the cold in the inaccessible areas of NEFA and Ladakh. There were many such difficulties, but they proved to be dwarfed by the rocky intentions of the jawans.
The series, ‘The War in the Hills’, is one such story inspired by the 1962 war between India and China, which highlights the emotional battles fought in the soldiers’ life as well as in their personal lives, which series Is spread over 10 episodes.
The weak links of the web series ‘1962: The War in the Hills’ are so hard to find what is good in it. There is no tightening in the story of the series, due to which the thread appears weak. The result of Manjrekar-Acharya’s jugalbandi led to the result that it became an important war sandwich between the events of the characters’ household, romance, love lettering, love triangle, engagement and marriage. Many films have been made on Deshpram, which have been hits, but in this series Emotions did not appear. Mahesh Manjrekar is neither able to instill a sense of patriotism nor romance. What the writer-director primarily wants to show is not clear until the end, as a soldier of war might finally return home. If so, like a worn-out mother-in-law, her pregnant girlfriend is traveling with someone else in the wedding pavilion.
Overall, the series is a blot in the name of director Mahesh Manjrekar, who is looking for work these days. After watching the series, it seems as if neither the research key of the story was paid any attention nor the attempt was made to make the story a strong one.
