Amarendra had a barren land, but he started the cultivation of arhar dal on this land. After sowing the seeds, he left no stone unturned in taking care of the plants. Amarendra says that the cultivation of arhar dal does not involve much cost, only proper care and irrigation is required.
After about a year, his hard work bore fruit and the crop was ready. He got a production of 30 quintals of pulses from the seeds sown in two acres. Due to good price of Arhar dal in the market, he earned about Rs 3 lakh from this crop. Getting such a huge income from a seed of only Rs 1000 is a big achievement for any farmer.
Amarendra Kumar says that perhaps for the first time the cultivation of Arhar dal has been done on such a large scale in Saharsa district and it was completely successful. Seeing his crop, nearby farmers have also been inspired. Amarendra claims that the specialty of Arhar dal is that once the seeds are sown, it continues to produce for three years, due to which there is no expense of purchasing seeds again every year.
According to Amarendra, cultivation of arhar dal is very beneficial especially for those farmers who have vacant or less fertile land. This crop does not require much water and its plants are capable of increasing the fertility of the soil. This success of Amarendra Kumar shows that if new technology and correct information is used in farming, then big earning is possible even at low cost. His achievement has become an inspiration not only for Saharsa but for the farmers of entire Bihar.
