Running and jumping banned in Patna’s Gandhi Maidan, DM orders to keep it green

Patna : Running, jumping and other physical exercises have now been completely banned in the historic Gandhi Maidan of Patna, the capital of Bihar. Patna district administration has banned all types of physical training including private coaching institutes with immediate effect. This decision has been taken due to the destruction of the green grass of the field and formation of potholes at many places.

Gandhi Maidan of Patna is the largest and popular open space place. Thousands of people come here from morning to evening for walking, exercise and sports, but in the last few years, many private coaching institutes started providing physical preparation for Police, Railways, SSC and other competitive examinations. In such a situation, coaching operators used to make their students do long run, high jump, long jump and other exercises. Due to this, the grass of the field was completely uprooted and huge pits were formed. During the rainy season, the beauty of the grounds was completely lost due to mud and dust.

Physical training stopped after complaints

According to DM of Patna, apart from common citizens, complaints were being received continuously from many organizations and local people that Gandhi Maidan is no longer suitable for playing and walking. People were not able to use it as a park here with their children. Taking the complaints seriously, the administration issued notices to all the coaching institutes and directed them to stop physical training. Now the grounds will be open only for walking and light exercise.

Strict action against violators

Patna DM has given a strict warning that if any coaching institute or its director is found conducting physical training at Gandhi Maidan, legal action will be taken against it. Punishment can range from cancellation of registration of the institute to fine. The administration says that it is their priority to keep Gandhi Maidan green and beautiful, so that the general public can use it peacefully.

Disappointment among coaching operators due to closure of Gandhi Maidan

Operators and students of many coaching institutes are disappointed with this decision. He says that there is no big open ground for physical training in Patna. Therefore Gandhi Maidan was the only option. Now they will have to find an alternative place. At the same time, the administration has also planned to repair the ground and plant grass. It is hoped that soon Gandhi Maidan will again return to its old lush green appearance.
