Nepal Elephants Gift To Qatar: Two elephants from Chitwan National Park of Nepal were sent to Qatar from Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa. According to information received from Chitwan’s Conservation Officer Avinash Thapa, this gift in the form of elephants has been sent to Qatar as a gesture of mutual goodwill between the two countries.
West Champaran: Two elephants from Nepal’s Chitwan National Park were sent to Qatar from Bhairahawa’s Gautam Buddha International Airport. According to information received from Chitwan’s Conservation Officer Avinash Thapa, this gift in the form of elephants was sent to Qatar as a gesture of mutual goodwill between the two countries. Actually, former President of Nepal Vidya Devi Bhandari had gone to Qatar for a tour in 2018. At that time he had announced to give a pair of elephants as a gift to Qatar. In the year 2024, when Amir Sheikh Tamit of Qatar came to Nepal on a formal visit, as per the announcement at that time, there was talk of sending a pair of elephants with him. But due to some reasons the elephants could not be sent with them. After this it was sent on Wednesday 17th December.
Two elephants sent from Nepal to Qatar
According to the official, among the elephants sent as a gift to Qatar, there is a female and a male. The name of the female elephant is Rudrakali. Whose age is seven years and the name of the male elephant is Khagendra Prasad. Whose age is six years. Both of them were born in the elephant shed located at Sauraha in Chitwan Nikunj. Before sending both the elephants to Qatar, a farewell ceremony was organized in Sauraha on Monday. After which they were kept in a special container and loaded on a truck and brought to Bhairahawa.
Ronaldo’s children are Rudrakali and Khagendra.
Both the elephants were handed over to Qatar’s Ambassador Nishak Mohammad Ul Ansari by the Secretary of Nepal’s Forest and Environment Ministry and senior officials of Nikunj Department. After this, they (elephants) were loaded into Qatar’s cargo plane and sent to Qatar. Let us tell you that both the elephants sent to Qatar are the children of a wild elephant named Ronaldo. The female elephant living in the elephant shed of the Elephant Breeding Center becomes pregnant from the union of powerful elephants like wild elephant Ronaldo, Dhruv, Govinda.
International recognition of biodiversity
According to Avinash Thapa, the Government of Nepal gifts wild animals to other countries with the aim of making the importance of biodiversity recognized at the international level. However, this is the first case of sending an elephant to another country. Before this, rhinoceros and other wild animals have been given as gifts by Nepal to various countries.
