New Delhi. With the increasing network of roads and expressways in the country, the government’s focus on quality is also increasing. Union Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has taken command in his own hands. He has bluntly said that if the quality of road construction is compromised then the person responsible for it should be deployed for action. He has clearly said that while taking the contract for road construction, the responsible people will have to take care that the quality should not be compromised.
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has also held a review meeting on this issue with National Highway Authority (NHAI) officials in Gandhinagar. While presiding over it, he warned the contractors to maintain high quality in road construction, otherwise be prepared to face action. During the review meeting, the Road Transport and Highways Minister also asked the contractors to give top priority to the convenience and safety of the people in the construction as well as reconstruction of highways.
Gujarat will get Rs 20 thousand crores
Gadkari has assured that the Center will allocate Rs 20,000 crore for the construction, reconstruction and related projects of national highways in Gujarat. Gadkari inspected the under-construction section of National Highway-48 at Himmatnagar town in Gujarat’s Sabarkantha district and reviewed the progress of work being done on the Motipur flyover and an underpass on the highway. During this period the quality of roads was also reviewed.
The government also supported the minister
In the notification issued by the government, it has been said that in the review meeting held in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Gadkari asked the officials and contractors to ensure high quality in road construction, otherwise be prepared to face action. The Union Minister gave strict instructions to the officials and contractors to complete all the road construction work within the stipulated time. All senior officials and contractors were ordered to give top priority to smooth transport access and take it seriously.
Why is it important to maintain the highway?
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said that more than 35 percent of the total traffic load comes on the national highways of the state, hence they should be properly repaired and if necessary, NHAI should also do expansion work. He said that one should always be alert about the construction and quality of highways in the states, because it plays the biggest role in the total traffic of any state.
