Asia Power Index 2025: India has emerged as the third largest global power in the Lowy Institute’s 2025 Asia Power Index. India has got the status of ‘Major Power’ on the basis of military action against Pakistan in ‘Operation Sindoor’ and economic strength. New Delhi: India has proved its strength on the global stage. Lowy Institute of Australia has released the Asia Power Index of 2025. In this, India has been given the status of ‘Major Power’. This achievement is the result of India’s aggressive military campaign and growing economy. According to the report, India has now become the third largest power in the world. India has left behind even superpowers like Japan and Russia. In this list, America is at first place and China is at second place. ‘Operation Vermillion’ is believed to have a big role behind this success of India. This operation showed the world that India can go to any extent for its security.

Operation Sindoor: Pakistan entered into the house and killed

In response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack, the Indian Army launched a major operation in May 2025. It was named ‘Operation Sindoor’. During this period, India had destroyed 9 terrorist bases located in Pakistan and PoK. India had broken the back of Pakistan with missile attacks. The Indian Air Force and Missile Force had targeted major air bases of Pakistan. The attack was so gruesome that the Pakistani DGMO had to request India for ceasefire. Lowy Institute has clearly stated in its report that this operation has played a big role in improving India’s ranking. This has increased both India’s combat experience and its dominance in the world.

What does it mean to become a major power?

To become a major power in the Asia Power Index, a score of 40 points is required. India has touched this magical figure in 2025. India’s score has now reached 40. America’s score is 80.4 and China’s score is 73.5. India has further strengthened its lead over Japan. Japan’s score is lower than India. The report says that if India crosses the score of 40, it will move towards becoming a military superpower. India has gained 0.9 points in the last one year.
