Protests against the 50 percent tariff imposed on India have intensified in America itself. Three American lawmakers have presented a proposal to eliminate tariffs, challenging Trump’s trade policy. Lawmakers say this duty is hurting the American economy and consumers.
US President Donald Trump’s trade policy is now facing a tough challenge in his own country. Voice has been raised in the US Parliament against the heavy tariffs imposed on goods coming from India. Three American lawmakers have presented a proposal, the aim of which is to eliminate up to 50 percent of the tariffs imposed on India. This is being seen as a growing dissatisfaction in Congress against Trump’s trade policy. This proposal has been presented jointly by Democratic Party MP Deborah Ross, Mark VC and Indian origin MP Raja Krishnamurthy. The proposal demands cancellation of the additional 25 percent secondary tariff imposed in August 2025. Combined with the reciprocal tariffs imposed earlier, the total duty on many Indian products had reached 50 percent.
