Kerala announces 60 days maternity leave for female students
Earlier, periods leave was also announced for female students.
Female students need 73% attendance
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala’s Higher Education Minister R. Bindu announced on Thursday that female students above 18 years will now be given maternity leave. Now under this new rule, female students can get leave for more than 60 days. In Kerala State University, the required attendance for female students has now been reduced from 75 percent to 73 percent.

As reported by news agency ANI, R. In a press release issued from her office, Bindu said, “Keeping in mind the mental and physical difficulties faced by girl students during menstruation, the Kerala government is planning to implement it in all universities under the State Higher Education Department .” Earlier on Tuesday, Bindu said that the government has announced to give leave during periods in Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT).
Earlier, Kerala’s Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) on Saturday announced 2% relaxation in attendance for female students in each semester. Generally, only those students are allowed to appear in each semester examination whose aggregate attendance is 75 percent. The university has said that a proposal by the CUSAT Students’ Union and various student organizations was recently formally submitted to the Vice-Chancellor and the same has also been approved.
