Jammu. Karkardooma Court has granted interim bail to former JNU student leader Umar Khalid, who is jailed in the Delhi riots case. The court on Thursday accepted the petition filed by Umar Khalid, in which he had sought interim bail to attend his sister’s marriage. Former Jammu and Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti and her daughter Iltija Mufti have reacted to Umar Khalid getting bail.
After getting bail to Umar Khalid, Mehbooba Mufti said that it is sad and surprising that Khalid had to wait for five years for 13 days parole, while the culprits of rape and murder keep coming in and out on parole again and again. This shows another flaw and discrimination in the justice system.
Former Jammu and Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti made a post on the social media platform This difference is clearly visible. This disparity reflects a disturbing flaw and discrimination in our justice system.
Iltija Mufti wrote that Umar Khalid has been in jail for more than five years without any punishment under UAPA. He has been granted bail for 13 days to attend his sister’s wedding. Will anyone pretend that this is justice? Thank you very much My Lords, or is it contempt of court to tell the truth in the form of sarcasm?
The marriage of Umar Khalid’s sister is to take place on 27th December and the bail period from 14th December to 29th December was sought. The court has granted interim bail to Khalid from December 16 to December 29.
The court has given interim release to Umar Khalid with conditions.
