The court has convicted Chandigarh’s serial killer Monu in the rape and murder case of an MBA student in 2010. Monu has been sentenced to life imprisonment today. The victim’s parents were present in the court at the time of the verdict.
Chandigarh: A beast in human form who crossed all limits of brutality. This single man raped 4 women alone. Not only this, these women were also murdered very brutally. We are talking about serial killer Monu. So let us tell you about his bad deeds.
The story starts in 2010. When 21 year old MBA student Neha Ahlawat left her home in Sector 38 West on a scooter at around 6 pm on 30 July 2010 for an English speaking class. But she did not return home. That same night, amid heavy rain, her semi-nude, bloodied body was found in the bushes near a taxi stand. There were injury marks on the body and she had been strangled to death. CFSL later confirmed rape from semen samples present on her clothes. No clue was found in this case at that time and in 2020 this case was closed as unsolved. But this case was certainly closed, but not over. Because through the same DNA the police had to reach the truth after 15 years.
executes the incident in the same pattern
During this period, two more similar cases took place in the forested areas of Chandigarh. All women were targeted after seeing them alone. Advantage was taken of the rainy season. The attacker would take them to a deserted area, attack them, strangle them and then throw their bodies in the bushes. In many cases, signs of rape were found even after the murder. DNA was found in all three cases, which belonged to the same person.
Killer identified through sperm
Monu murdered and raped not just one but four women in the same pattern. He first raped a girl in Chamba area of Himachal in the year 2008 at the age of just 20. He had killed her by hitting her on the head with a sharp stone. Himachal Police had arrested the accused Monu Kumar in this case but due to lack of concrete evidence, he was acquitted during the court trial. A few months later, in 2010, he raped an MBA student and also killed her by hitting her on the head with a sharp stone. After this, the accused carried out a similar incident with a married woman in the forest of Maloya in the year 2022. In February 2024, the killer murdered a 65-year-old woman and attempted to rape her. The semen found on the woman’s clothes had a DNA match with hers.
During the DNA test, doctors first got Monu Kumar’s sample tested with the sample of a deceased married woman. When Monu returned on 6 May 2024, the police caught him. At first he denied everything. But when the police told that his DNA matched with all three cases, he confessed to all three murders. This time he also had his mobile phone with him. Location tracking of the mobile phone revealed that it was present in the same area of Sector 54 where Shanichara Devi’s body was found.
Monu sentenced to life imprisonment
Now in this case, the fast track court has sentenced notorious serial killer Monu to life imprisonment for the rape and murder of an MBA student. Besides, a fine of Rs 50-50 thousand has also been imposed on him under different sections. Monu is accused of many similar incidents and the hearing of other cases is still going on in the court.
