Katihar: Rajesh Prasad, a resident of Chhittabari in Katihar district of Bihar, has today become a successful and inspirational name in the field of fish farming. But behind his success lies a story of struggle, as well as a willingness to take risks and find new paths. Rajesh Prasad used to do poultry farming business before doing successful fish farming. This work was successful for many years. But due to sudden market fluctuations and disease, there was huge loss in poultry farming. For Rajesh, this was the time when any common man’s courage could have broken, but Rajesh did not give up. Rajesh started searching for new paths. Meanwhile he chose fish farming. However, he had to struggle a lot in this work also. Over time, hard work and determination made him successful.
Fish farming on a large scale after a small start at a cost of Rs 10 lakh
Rajesh Prasad tells that he started from a very small level. First started fish farming as an experiment in a small pond. Initial success gave him courage to move forward. After this he started fish farming in small tanks and kept learning continuously. Gradually his experience increased and fish farming also started gaining momentum. During this time, he got the benefit of various schemes of the Fisheries Department, due to which his work could progress more strongly with technical assistance and financial support. Today Rajesh Prasad is doing fish farming on a large scale at a cost of about Rs 10 lakh.
80 percent profit with 5 months of hard work
Rajesh has a modern tank costing Rs 6 lakh in which he is producing native Singhi and native Tengra fish. There is huge demand for both these fish in Katihar as well as Purnia market. This is the reason that when their fishes are ready and reach the market in five months, they get about 80 percent profit.
There has never been any loss in fish farming in 13 years
Rajesh says that in the last 13 years he has never suffered any loss from fish farming, rather his profits have been increasing every year. Not only this, Rajesh now also does the breeding work of native Singhi fish himself, which further reduces his costs and increases production capacity. Rajesh says, “If fish farming is done with the right technology and with hard work, it is a very profitable business. Its demand is continuously increasing in Bihar and fish farming can become a major source of employment in the future.
Rajesh Prasad’s story is an inspiration for all those youth who stop after some failure. Rajesh proved that if the intentions are strong then every loss can become the beginning of a new opportunity.
